eCitations: A ticket to increased revenues and productivity

The high cost associated with handwritten citations is well documented. Every year, agencies lose millions of dollars due to inaccuracies that lead to dismissal of large volumes of tickets due to illegible handwriting and data entry errors. And handwritten citations may be entered into as many as three reporting systems - the police records system, the court case management system and the state's citation tracking system - driving administration costs up while errors drive revenues down.

An eCitation solution from Motorola and Zebra can eliminate these issues by automating and error-proofing the citation process. With a Motorola mobile computer in hand, officers can simply scan the bar code or magnetic stripe on the driver's license to autopopulate most of the fields in an electronic citation form. Drop down menus for violations and vehicle information further protect against errors and can autofill fine amounts and court information. A cellular connection enables instant transmission of the electronic ticket into all appropriate business systems. And a Zebra wireless printer with a Bluetooth connection to the Motorola mobile computer enables printing of the completed ticket - right on the spot.

The result? Where a paper-based citation can take nearly two weeks to process, Motorola and Zebra enable processing in just minutes. Manual data entry is virtually eliminated, reducing staffing requirements. Errors associated with illegible handwriting and data entry are virtually eliminated, dramatically reducing the number of dismissed citations - and substantially increasing revenue.
